Dates September 06-09, 2012
Location The Lawn in Lincoln
Lincoln Castle

Remarks Weekend at the Asylum is Europe’s biggest steampunk event which encompasses the historic quarter of the City of Lincoln. Even so we still find there are more steampunks who want to attend than we can include in a single venue. Thus it had developed into a fringe style festival with a choice of events for you to select from creating a truly individual, bespoke event.

Sunday: Q & A Sessions, Photo Ops, Claudia’s Birthday Party (Hotel Lobby Bar)

“After years of attending conventions where fans were mistreated, told not to touch, photograph, film, eat or breathe…. I decided to throw what I call the “anti-convention.” My theory is that if you give people freedom and respect they will in turn give you freedom and respect. The actors, actresses, writers, show-runners, producers, etc. attending as guests will be signing, taking professional photos, casual photos, milling about and having fun all weekend so I hope that you will have the opportunity to meet the people you admire, have a relaxed and enjoyable weekend among friends, and even learn a thing or two!
I will be celebrating my birthday as well over the weekend and you are all invited to my birthday party on Sunday evening at the hotel lobby bar.”

Illustrious, the 62nd Eastercon 2011

Tagline We won! Illustrious is now officially the 62nd Eastercon!
Type Military Science Fiction

Location Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel

Remarks Author Guests of Honour: David Weber and Peter F. Hamilton
Artist David A. Hardy
Poet Roz Kaveney
Firefly Live Role Playing (LRP) game
An introduction to Satellite 3′s Martian Chess tournament

“We will have the traditional broad range of programme items running from Friday evening to Monday evening. As well as covering the usual gamut of literary and media SF there will be two themed streams: Military SF and SF Through The Decades.
Instead of the usual masquerade we will be hosting the Admiralty Ball. This is a chance for everyone to dress in their finery (of any world and any time, of course) and dance the evening away. There will still be a costuming competition, and entrants to this will be formally announced upon their arrival by the Master of Ceremonies (with the opportunity for a little theatre), but the intention is to encourage more people to get involved in costuming without the stage fright factor of the masquerade catwalk. It also means that people can get closer to the contestants, that they might better appreciate the amount of time and work that goes into creating some masquerade costumes.”
